The First Weeks Shape Everything

Text discussing guidance for puppy training and development, including preventing future behavior challenges, establishing routines, building confidence and calmness, and supporting owners with knowledge.

Bringing a new puppy home is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. The broken sleep, toilet accidents, biting, crying, chewing and not knowing what to do next can quickly become a lot.

What many owners do not realise is that the first few weeks are not just about getting through puppyhood. They are the beginning of your puppy’s routine, confidence, independence, calmness and ability to cope with everyday life.

The right support early on can help you feel more prepared, reduce overwhelm and give your puppy a calmer, more predictable start at home.

Coached Canine Puppy Development Program has been created to help you understand what your puppy needs first, what is normal, what to avoid, and how to start building strong foundations from the beginning.

You do not need to have everything perfect. You just need a clear place to start.

The Puppy Development Program

Bringing a new puppy home comes with a lot to think about. Sleep, toileting, biting, crate training, routines, socialisation and teaching them how to listen can quickly feel overwhelming.

The Puppy Development Program is designed to simplify those early weeks and help you focus on the foundations that matter most right now.

We work on building your puppy’s engagement with you, both inside and outside the home, so they begin learning to check in, respond and feel confident following your guidance in everyday situations.

Training is personalised around your puppy, your home and your routine. Rather than trying to teach everything at once, we prioritise what your puppy needs first, review how they are progressing and adjust the plan as they develop.

Support that continues between sessions

Whether you are local or further away, puppy support is available in person or online, so you can get guidance that fits your puppy, your home and your everyday routine.

You will receive clear action plans after each session so you know exactly what to practise next without feeling like you need to do everything at once. You will also have access to relevant puppy resources covering areas such as sleep, toileting, crate confidence, biting, routine, alone time, training and safe exposure.

For online clients, sessions are adapted to your home and puppy through video coaching, with practical guidance you can apply between sessions and support as new questions or challenges come up.

The goal is to help you feel confident raising your puppy, build strong engagement and foundations at home, and prepare them to handle the world around them as they grow.

Hi, I’m Hayley

I'm the trainer and founder behind Coached Canine, and I specialise in puppy training and early behaviour development. My approach is built entirely on positive reinforcement, guiding puppies gently and clearly to build confidence, calmness, and the essential life skills they need to thrive.

My work is strengthened by years of experience as a qualified veterinary nurse. That clinical background gives me a deep understanding of canine stress, canine health, gentle handling, and how to support dogs through care and change — knowledge that directly shapes how I work with puppies and their families.

I know how overwhelming the first few weeks with a new puppy can feel. I also know how much of a difference it makes when those early weeks are guided well. That's why every program I deliver is thoughtful, evidence based, and tailored to the individual puppy in front of me.

When you learn with me, you’ll feel supported, informed and confident with what to do next with your puppy.

Not sure where to start? Begin with the first two weeks

If your puppy is coming home soon or has only just arrived, you may not need a full training program straight away. Sometimes the most helpful place to start is simply having a clear plan for those first few weeks.

Start with the free First 48 Hours Guide to help you understand what your puppy needs first, what is normal during the settling-in period, and how to introduce routine, reassurance and calm support from day one.

From there, Puppy Essentials: The First 14 Days gives you a structured online plan to follow at home. It takes the guesswork out of those early weeks by giving you clear priorities, practical training exercises and guidance on what to focus on as your puppy settles in.

You’ll be guided through:

  • Toilet training

  • Sleep and overnight routines

  • Crate confidence

  • Calmness and settling

  • Biting and jumping

  • Handling and grooming foundations

  • Safe exposure and socialisation

  • Alone-time foundations

  • Early engagement and training skills

The program is designed for owners who want trainer led guidance they can work through in their own time.

If you are unsure whether you need personalised training yet, this is a great place to begin. You can start building the right foundations at home, then move into the Puppy Development Program or online private coaching later if you need more individual support.

The first two weeks are not about creating a perfect puppy. They are about giving you a clear direction and helping your puppy build strong routines, trust and foundations from the beginning.

Bringing your puppy home is exciting, but it can also leave you thinking

“What do I actually focus on first?”

Should my puppy sleep in a crate, a bed, or near me? How often should I take them outside for toilet training? When do I start training? What do I do when they cry, bite, jump, chew, or struggle to settle? The first two weeks can feel overwhelming because there is so much to think about at once.

That is exactly why Puppy Essentials: The First 14 Days was created.

The 14-Day Structure

This training program gives you a clear day by day plan so you are not left guessing what your puppy needs next. Each day includes one focus, a simple routine to follow, training education, step by step tasks, common puppy problem support and an end-of-day checklist.

You’ll also receive printable tracker PDFs to help you notice your puppy’s patterns and build a routine that actually works for them, including a Daily Rhythm Tracker, Toilet Training Tracker and Sleep Tracker.

Instead of trying to teach everything at once, this guide helps you focus on what matters most first, routine, toileting, sleep, crate confidence, calmness, early training, handling and safe exposure.

It is designed to help you feel more prepared, more confident and more supported during the first two weeks at home.
