The First Weeks Shape Everything

Bringing a new puppy home is exciting but it can also be exhausting and overwhelming. The broken sleep, the toilet accidents, the nipping, the not knowing what to do next. It's a lot, especially in those first few weeks.

Here's what most people don't realise: puppies have a critical developmental window; a brief, irreplaceable period when their brains are most receptive to learning, routine, and new experiences. What happens during this time has a lasting influence on how they behave, cope, and respond to the world for the rest of their lives.

The Coached Canine Puppy Development Program is designed to take the pressure off you during this period while making sure your puppy gets the right foundations from the very beginning. Less stress at home. Fewer unwanted habits forming. More confidence for both of you.

Practical Skills for Real Life

This isn't just puppy sitting and it's not a few basic training sessions. Every skill taught during the program has been chosen because it makes a genuine difference to daily life at home.

Hi, I’m Hayley

I'm the trainer and founder behind Coached Canine, and I specialise in puppy training and early behaviour development. My approach is built entirely on positive reinforcement, guiding puppies gently and clearly to build confidence, calmness, and the essential life skills they need to thrive.

My work is strengthened by years of experience as a qualified veterinary nurse. That clinical background gives me a deep understanding of canine stress, canine health, gentle handling, and how to support dogs through care and change — knowledge that directly shapes how I work with puppies and their families.

I know how overwhelming the first few weeks with a new puppy can feel. I also know how much of a difference it makes when those early weeks are guided well. That's why every program I deliver is thoughtful, evidence based, and tailored to the individual puppy in front of me.

When your puppy is with me, they are in safe, capable, caring hands. And when they come home, you'll feel informed, supported, and ready.

What the Program Builds

Every puppy who completes the program leaves with a strong foundation across six essential areas of development. The building blocks of a calm, confident, and well adjusted dog. And for owners, that means a much easier, more enjoyable life at home.

Training the Foundations

A comprehensive set of practical skills, introduced gently and positively, that give your puppy the tools to communicate clearly, behave calmly, and navigate daily life with ease and give you the confidence to continue at home.

Confidence and Calm Behaviour

A puppy's emotional development is just as important as their obedience training and it's often the piece that gets overlooked. How a puppy feels about the world, whether they approach new things with curiosity or with fear, is shaped largely by their earliest experiences.

The program provides safe, positive exposure to people, sounds, objects, surfaces, and environments that are carefully managed to ensure each experience builds confidence rather than overwhelm. Calmness is taught as a genuine skill, not simply expected.

For owners, this means a dog who is easier to take out, calmer in new situations, and far less likely to develop anxiety or reactivity later in life.

Cooperative Care and Handling

A puppy who is comfortable being handled is a puppy who copes well with vet visits, grooming, and everyday care throughout their life. This is one of the most valuable foundations we build during the program.

Crate Training and Sleep Habits

A crate, when introduced correctly, becomes one of the most valuable tools in a puppy's life — a safe, comfortable space they choose to rest in, not a place of confinement or punishment. Getting this right early makes an enormous difference to a puppy's sense of security and independence.

The program builds positive crate associations from day one, supporting puppies through daytime naps, night routines, and short periods of calm separation. For owners, this means better sleep, less anxiety about leaving the puppy alone, and a dog who genuinely settles rather than one who cries or becomes destructive.

These foundations translate directly into long term independence, a dog who copes well with alone time throughout their life.

Toilet Training Foundations

Toilet training is one of the most common sources of stress for new puppy owners. The program takes a structured, consistent approach that removes the guesswork and builds reliable habits from the very beginning, so you can stop worrying about accidents and start enjoying your puppy.

Socialisation and Exposure

Good socialisation is not about exposing puppies to as much as possible, it's about ensuring every experience is positive, age appropriate, and carefully managed. The difference between good socialisation and overwhelming exposure is significant, and it shapes how a dog responds to the world for the rest of their life.

The program introduces puppies to new sights, sounds, surfaces, and environments in a measured, supportive way. Always working within vaccination guidelines and always prioritising the puppy's emotional experience over the volume of exposure.

For owners, this means a dog who is easier to take out, more relaxed in new environments, and far less likely to develop fear based reactions or reactivity later on.

You Won't Be Left to Figure It Out Alone

The program doesn't end when your puppy comes home. Every family receives a comprehensive take home resource pack and ongoing support so you feel confident, informed, and ready to continue the great work.

An Investment in Prevention, Not Just Training

The first few weeks of your puppy’s life shape so much of what comes next. This program is designed to do the important work early so you’re not spending months trying to undo habits later on.

Comparable Value: Over $10,000+

This is not a few training sessions. It is 14 days of round-the-clock care, structured learning, behaviour development, and personalised support during one of the most important developmental periods in your puppy’s life. When you break down everything included, the comparable value is over $10,000.

Why Early Investment Matters

The early weeks at home are when routines form, confidence begins to grow, and everyday habits start to take shape. When puppies receive the right structure during this window, it can help prevent many of the challenges owners later struggle with difficulty settling, poor sleep, toileting issues, overexcitement, and a lack of confidence in new environments.

Behaviour problems are one of the leading reasons dogs are surrendered to shelters. Many of these issues, anxiety, reactivity, destructive behaviour, separation distress have roots in the earliest weeks of a puppy’s life. The Puppy Development Program is designed to help prevent these problems from forming in the first place.

What Families Are Saying

Nick

"Henry arrived beautifully socialised, already responding reliably to basic commands like sit and drop for a little treat, and – amazingly - he slept through the night in his crate from day one with no wake‑ups. Really amazing for such a young puppy! Throughout the programme, she kept us updated with regular photos, videos, and messages, which gave us real peace of mind that he was in excellent hands and making great progress. As we live overseas, Hayley also arranged a video call before Henry flew out to us, as well as a follow‑up call a week after his arrival, which we really appreciated."
